Gum Treatment for Different Kinds of Gum Diseases

Numerous people are suffering from gum disease of varying severity. Without proper gum treatment, you could suffer from bleeding and bad breath at the initial stages and then this disease can eventually progress to the pockets of bacterial infection. The disease then may invade itself into the tissues of the gums, which will damage soft tissues and bones to the extent where dentists have no other choice but to employ extreme solutions. But it is possible to halt the decay by starting the treatment in the early stages of this disease. The chief objective of gum treatment is to prevent permanent tissue damage, control infection and tooth loss.

There are few basic things that can be done to make the treatment effective. Treatment varies according to severity of the disease.

Treatment of Gingivitis

Gingivitis is the condition where gum tissue swells. It can be treated without the surgical procedure.

At this point, the damage to the gums is not irreversible or permanent. It just requires regular cleaning and planing to maintain good oral health. Scrapping of plaque and tartar is done by dentist to control this disease. A follow-up treatment every 3-4 months is a necessity.

Antibiotics (local applications, capsules, pills, anti-bacterial toothpaste or mouthwash) are generally recommended to the patient after this treatment, as, these helps in fighting against infections.

Treatment of Periodontitis

Periodontitis is an advanced or progressive form of gingivitis. This condition needs immediate attention as the infection can spread very fast if left untreated, thus, damage to gum and teeth may occur.

Dentist removes the tartar and plaque buildup, below and above the gum line via. scaling and planing. Antibiotics are generally prescribed after this treatment. Sometimes antibiotics are inserted directly into the gum pockets to arrest the infection.

If after going through these treatments, patient does not get relief, then, a surgery is recommended. Various surgical procedures to treat this disease include:

  • Gingivectomy: In this procedure, loose and diseased tissue is removed and reshaped. This helps in getting rid of all the pockets between teeth and gum, thus, prevents plaque buildup.

  • Gum flap Surgery: In this procedure, the gum flap is dragged back to clean the roots of the teeth. This helps in repairing bone damage and strengthening flap.

  • Extraction: In some severe cases, the tooth may also need to be extracted.

Follow-up procedures

The dentist teaches you about correct brushing techniques once the treatment (non-surgical or surgical treatment) is finished.

At irresistible Clinics in San Diego, Gum Treatment is provided at reasonable prices. You most likely do not need gum treatment on a daily basis. Some people might not be able to know it early whether they require dental attention or not until they decide to see a dentist. Options for deciding your treatment choices will be governed by the gravity of your condition.
